ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of small-dose midazolam on intraoperative anesthetic depth and postoperative recovery in laparoscopic operation of pediatric hernia. MethodsEighty children undergoing selective laparoscopic ligation of internal ring were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups, with 40 cases in each group. Anesthesia induction with 0.05 mg/kg of midazolam and 4mg/kg of propofol was conducted in the observation group, and 4mg/kg of propofol in the control group. Administration of other analgesics and muscle relaxants with the same type and dosage were performed in both group. Inhalation of sevoflurane was used as the anesthesia maintenance during operation. Before and after anesthesia induction or operation, the blood pressure and heart rate were observed and compared between the two groups, and the emergence agitation was also observed. ResultsThere were no significant differences in operative duration, anesthetic duration, duration for extubation and recovery room stay between the two groups（all P＞0.05）. The consumption of sevoflurane in the control group was significantly more than that in the observation group, but the duration for recovery was shorter and agitation score was lower in the observation group compared to the control group（all P＜0.05）. ConclusionCombination of small-dose midazolam has little effect on the duration for postoperative recovery in laparoscopic operation of pediatric hernia, and can alleviate the anxiety, enhance the anesthetic effect and reduce postoperative restlessness.
